What lengths will the Flowbee cut my hair?
The Flowbee cuts hair lengths from 1/2? to 6? long at any 1/4? increment. Additional spacers may be purchased if you desire longer lengths of hair, and as short as a 1/4? can be accomplished simply by acquiring the shortest foot guards we offer on our parts page. You should not try to cut more than 1/2? in length at a time.
Will the Flowbee work with any vacuum?
The Flowbee will work with just about any vacuum on the market with a round hose to connect to. The power output needs to be at least 1 horsepower, or 700 watts. The more power your home vacuum has, the more efficiently your Flowbee will operate, and it is great for central vacuums.

How long will my Flowbee last?
The Flowbee is designed to give hundreds and hundreds of precision haircuts if properly cared for. We highly recommend that you use only Flowbee oil, as other lubricants can gum up the blades, slow your Flowbee down, and substantially shorten the overall life of the unit.
Can the blades on the Flowbee be sharpened?
No, the precision design of the cutting head does not allow for this. If your Flowbee is getting older and the unit is not giving the same great haircuts that it used to, then you should start thinking about buying a new Flowbee.
Can my children use the Flowbee?
Yes, with adult supervision.
Why are the blades intermittently turning on and off?
There can be several reasons for this happening depending on how old the unit is. If it is only a couple of months old, the cam below the blades could be rubbing too hard on the blade cover; slightly loosen the bottom screw on the blade cover to help free up its movement. If that does not fix the issue, the power supply could be going bad. On an older unit, the blades may have residual buildup and may need to be cleaned, replaced, or the unit may be due for replacement.
Can a Flowbee be used on genital areas?
A Flowbee is not designed or safe for use on genital areas or other sensitive regions of the body. It should never be used on the penis, testicles, vulva, labia, groin, pubic area, or perineum, since the skin in these areas is thinner and more easily injured. The suction and cutting mechanism can cause cuts, irritation, pinching, or painful pulling of hair, and may increase the risk of infection if the skin is damaged. For grooming pubic hair or other sensitive areas, it is safer to use tools specifically made for body grooming, such as guarded trimmers or razors designed for delicate skin.
Short answer: I was pleasantly amazed at how well this thing works. I wear what is sometimes called a “high fade”. 5-6 on the sides and about 1-1 1/4″ long on the top. This thing creates a cut that is better than about 80% of the cuts I get at Great Clips. You need to play with the spacers a bit to get the right length but, once you do…. A-1. Couple things: 1) Make sure your hair is CLEAN and DRY for the best results. 2) Make sure your vacuum is operating well; I use a 3HP shop vac.

Received my Flowbee from JL Ryan and watched the video to get familiar with the process. I took it slow in moving down from the long guides to the short ones but once I got the hang of it worked very well on my straight hair. I used the tapered attachment on the sides and am very pleased with the results. I like it quite short on the sides so I finished up with a regular trimmer and tapered into the hair on top. Our friends are jealous of my Flowbee haircut during this quarantine period and I have loaned it out a couple of times already!

This thing works a lot better than I expected it to. I’ve seen videos where people had bad experiences with their Flowbee but I am very happy with mine. I just trimmed of a little bit at a time till I got the results that I wanted. Took no more than 10 minutes. The shipping was fast!
